Vade Mecum: DRAMATIS PERSONAE (Oh yeah, I'm getting all LATIN in a non-Earth fantasy universe. Dig it.

MORE OR LESS MAJOR CHARACTERS.

The Characters. May contain minor spoilers but most likely not. (Things that seem vague are probably referring to things that have happened but I don't want to spoil.) Also, a character's inclusion/exclusion guarantees nothing, as it takes me a while (understatement) to get around to updating this page. These character potrtaits, in fact, are 'new' to this page, but so old that I don't like them anymore.
Admon Alukerune
Xaffythe's identical twin (see Xaffythe entry for info on their twinosity.) Admon isn't necessarily the "good brother" any more than Xaffythe is the "bad brother". He took it upon himself to make up for his mother's absence and is therefore plagued by guilt when anything goes wrong. He isn't oblivious or innocent, though decidedly ignorant about the workings of the world outside Ellevohl and even his small farming community. He tries his best to not make an ass of himself. At the beginning of the story, he's in his early 20s. All Admon wants is to go home and have things go back to normal.

Admon is also the only one of his siblings to know the whereabouts of his parents. Unfortunately, his mother put a curse on him so that he would not know where they had gone--or why-- until they died (or, presumably, returned and just told them all anyway.) This is a sticking point that serves to divide him from his siblings and allow his sisters to 'side' with Xaffythe.

Bialy
Sharp-tongued and uptight, more well-traveled though generally not hugely knowledgable about the world than Admon. He has an education, is literate, and knows some swordfighting, but his book smarts won't get him much farther than Admon would get with his earnestness. He has a superior, impatient attitude and confidence in book smarts that indicates his age and class.

Kallan Alukerune (KALL ( "ka" as in "cat") an)
Admon's second youngest sister. If Veriana is closer to Admon, Kallan is closer to Xaffythe, both in relationship and behavior. Their indignance and irrational anger feeds eachother.
Languages Spoken: Lerranin
Veriana Alukerune (pronounced like 'Very ana')
The oldest of the three Alukerune sisters. She's actually named after the former First Thamaturge of Valas Iluan, Om Verien, with whom her mother was good friends. Her reluctance makes her the calmest and most collected of the Alukerune siblings, but it also allows her to be taken along on the wild goose chase that Xaffythe's obsessive quest becomes, without realizing what's happening until she can't stop it. While not weak-willed, her inclination is to go along with her siblings' wishes and to smooth things over as best as possible. Xaffythe is willing to lie to her because he knows this about her-- and he knows that she would, evenetually, put her foot down.

Kamron Alukerune

The youngest of the three Alukerune sisters. Her age lends her a mercurial temperament and extreme loyalty to her brothers. Additionally, she was so young when her parents left, she doesn't remember them at all.

Xaffythe Alukerune (People invariably say this "Zaffy The Alukerune." It's not "Zaffy The." Pretty much all that's right there is the X = Z. It's Xaff-- a nickname that shows up a lot in the comic, with an a like in cat-- and ythe, which is like lithe without the l.)
Admon's identical twin. He and Admon may be hard to tell apart, but I try to draw him with his hair braided when it's important to distinguish between the two of them. They are very similar looking, but not so similar that you should really mistake them (as far as in the world goes. I acknowledge that all bets are off when it comes to my drawings.) They can only impersonate eachother to people who REALLY do not know them. Bialy mistakes Admon for Xaff in one instance where Bialy is notably being an ass.

As far as Xaffythe goes-- he seems to have mysteriously gained magical powers and become slightly unhinged recently, a fact that kick-starts Admon's flight from the Alukerune homestead. Maril and Bialy have plenty of theories about what's happening here, but so far in the story it is a mystery. Xaffythe cares deeply for Admon and his sisters, and vice versa. His goal is to get Admon to come back home and take part in whatever is going on with him. Meanwhile, he does some strange things that freak people out and get him in trouble.

Queen Cynrosine (pronounced kyn RO seen) of Ellevohl [note: the y is as in Old English, or German ü)
The Queen of Elliv has been the Queen of Elliv for some time, though she was a young queen when the Alukerune parents were running around. She, being older and not as silly as Bialy or Admon, knows when to be concerned about things and makes sure people pay attention to her. However, she shares with Bialy a stubbornness that may either serve or hurt her in the long run.

Maril (ma-REEL)
The head sorcerer at Iluan Valas. Aloof, confident, and good friends with Bialy. One gets the feeling that Bialy learned a lot of his interpersonal skills from banter with this self-concious young master sorcerer. Like most Valas (perjorative name: brownies), he thinks Onda are hooligans and Ellivians lack common sense. Of course, the Valas council (Valas Iluan's ruling body, aside from Maril himself who in tranquil times serves as more of a figurehead,) like many bureaucratic entities, sometimes lacks common sense itself.

Despite his high status, high education, and presumably competent magical skill, Maril is insecure about his role and looks to Valas Iluan's former Om Zhalas, Verien, for inspiration. Maril has been Om Zhalas for considerably less time than Cynrosine has been queen, although he was in office for at least some of Bialy's childhood.

How exactly Bialy came to be close friends with Valas Iluan's Om Zhalas is another story.

Tibis
She is a highly ranked Guardian of Valas Iluan who has an unsually fluent grasp of Lerranin. Friendly with Bialy. She is young, spirited, and angling for a promotion.

Danguir
[Image Placeholder]
The second in command of Maril's personal guard, sent to Elliv to aid the queen. Why is Maril's first in command listed here? Simply because I have neither a profile image nor a name to give him.
